Introduction

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally inaugurated Phase Two of the Lahore Development Plan, a major initiative aimed at upgrading 6,284 streets and improving the overall beauty, sanitation, and infrastructure of the historic city. The project promises to make every neighborhood brighter, safer, and more organized in the coming months.

What Phase Two of the Lahore Development Plan Includes

The launch followed a high-level meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, where she received a detailed briefing on the development schedule, implementation strategy, and departmental responsibilities.

Under Phase Two:

  • 5,798 streets under the Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL)
  • 486 streets under WASA

will be fully upgraded by June 2026.

These upgrades include road rehabilitation, improved sewerage systems, strengthened sanitation, and beautification across Lahore’s neighborhoods.

CM Maryam Nawaz: “No Compromise on Quality”

During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the development work must be completed without delay and without compromising quality. She stated:

“Every part of Lahore will be restored with dignity. After upgrading over 6,000 streets, each neighborhood will become a symbol of pride for the people of Lahore.”

She also approved a monthly work plan, ensuring systematic progress and strict monitoring throughout the project’s execution.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals

The Lahore Development Plan supports several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 13 – Climate Action

Key improvements include:

  • New sewerage lines to prevent urban flooding
  • Cleaner streets to improve public health
  • Better water management
  • Safe commuting routes for residents and visitors

The project spans 9 MCL zones, covering 274 union councils and benefiting nearly 13 million people.

Phase Two will significantly enhance Lahore’s infrastructure, aesthetics, and livability. With thousands of streets being modernized, the city is moving toward a more organized, safe, and environmentally friendly future.
